If You Ain’t Talking, No One’s Listening!
If you’re not talking about your business, how is anyone supposed to know you exist?
In a world where info is coming at us from every angle—social media, blogs, podcasts, TikTok, YouTube—it’s easy for businesses to get lost in the noise. But here’s the thing: if you’re not putting yourself out there, you’re not being heard.
Whether you're a tiny startup or a booming empire, you’ve got to keep your message front and center. Customers might not need you right now, but when they do, you want to be the first name that pops into their head. If you're invisible, you’re irrelevant.
So, how are people consuming info these days?
Print Ads- Still around, but not the powerhouse they once were. They have their place, but they shouldn't be your main strategy anymore.
Radio- Yeah, it’s still there—but it’s more about nostalgia than cutting-edge. People are streaming, listening to podcasts, and getting their info online.
Old-School TV- It still packs a punch, but streaming and on-demand content have taken over. People aren’t scheduling their lives around TV shows anymore. Plus, TV ads can be expensive.
Social Media- Massive, yes, but it’s not the magic bullet it used to be. There are so many platforms now, and standing out is tougher than ever. Plus, many people have “checked out” or scaled back their social presence. Still, if you do it right, social media can still pack a punch.
Physical Signage in the Real World- Let’s not forget the power of physical signage! There’s something to be said about getting your message out where people physically gather or pass through. As they say, “Location, location, location!” The same goes for signage. Invisible signs don’t get seen. Whether it’s a storefront sign, banner, or event display (digital or print), make sure your business is visible to the people in your community. Sometimes, the best marketing is simply a sign that catches the eye of someone walking by.
Word of Mouth- Word of mouth is incredibly powerful when it happens, but relying on it alone? That’s risky. You can’t just sit back and wait for others to spread the word—you need to actively get your message out there. That said, part of word of mouth is building strong relationships with your Customers and business partners. Never underestimate the power of these connections—they can be your biggest advocates.
Your Website- Yep, you need one. It doesn’t have to be fancy—a simple homepage and contact page will do the trick. It’s your digital base camp, the place people will find you when they need solutions.
• Got print ads? You need a website.
• On the radio? Website.
• On TV? Website.
• On social media? Website.
• Signage? Website.
• Rely on word of mouth? You definitely need a website.
And if you’ve got shareable content? Even better! That’s free marketing while you sleep. Speaking of content, let’s talk about video…
Video. Is. King.
If you’re not using video, you’re missing out. It’s the best way to connect with your audience, showcase your personality, and build trust. Don’t stress about perfection—authenticity is what wins.
Pro Tip: Create content that can be leveraged over and over again. Want to know why video is so powerful? It’s the gift that keeps on giving. If done right, videos can live on for years. Trust me—I made some “info explainer” videos almost 10 years ago that are still being watched and leveraged today (and still making an impact!). That’s leveraging content, folks!
So now what?
Now it’s time to make some content! I know, putting yourself out there can feel awkward. But talking about your business isn’t bragging—it’s sharing what you’re passionate about. You’ve worked hard, and your business deserves to be seen. So, don’t hold back—just get your message out.
And please remember, talking doesn’t mean taking up all the oxygen in the room. Active communication means listening too. Pay attention to your Customers—they’re the heart of your business.
