First of all, thank you for taking a moment to read this inaugural blog post. It means a lot to me that you're here. Now, where to begin? Let's start with something simple—but profoundly important:
There is no business without customers.
It sounds obvious, right? But you'd be surprised how easy it is to lose sight of this fundamental truth amidst the hustle and bustle of day-to-day operations. Let me explain why this principle is so vital.
My journey in business began at a small pump company in the far southwestern corner of North Dakota. I had no idea when I took that job in February 2005 that it would kick off a remarkable 15-year journey that would culminate in the successful sale of the company in 2020. I had the privilege of working with some of the most genuine and insightful business leaders I’ve ever known — individuals who helped shape my understanding of what business is really about.
The core of their business philosophy — and the one lesson they reinforced every day — was this: “Take care of customers, and the profits will follow.”
That simple principle — customer-first — became the heartbeat of everything we did. The beauty of it is, it wasn’t just a strategy; it was a mindset that permeated every level of the business. The guiding principle was clear: customers are people just like us, and they should be treated with the same respect and care we’d want for ourselves.
Over time, this philosophy completely transformed my perspective on business. It was a game-changer. I went from being just another voice on the other end of the phone to becoming a true partner and problem solver for our customers. What started as a simple transaction— "You buy, we sell" —evolved into a meaningful, collaborative partnership. Customers knew we were there not just to sell, but to help them solve problems and achieve their goals.
Along the way, I made an unexpected shift from service and logistics into marketing. It wasn’t a path I had planned, but it became a unique opportunity to blend our customer-first approach with the creative world of marketing and communications. It also allowed me to tap into a passion for content creation that has been with me throughout my life. And what a journey it turned out to be—one that exceeded all my expectations and then some.
Fast forward to today, and after two decades of observation, it’s become clear to me that far too many businesses—whether small, medium, or large—still fail to embrace a truly customer-centered approach. Too often, companies focus on flashy marketing, product features, or short-term profits while neglecting the one thing that drives lasting success: genuine customer relationships.
That’s when I realized it was time to take this customer-first philosophy into the world and help other businesses unlock the true power of customer-centered marketing and operations.
