Marketing Starts with Ownership: Why Stakeholders Must Engage

Team collaboration and alignment can supercharge your marketing efforts.

Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome to the first 2025 entry of GoDak LLC’s “Keeping It Reel” Marketing Tips and Tricks!

Today, I’m speaking directly to business owners and stakeholders—those who are deeply invested in the company’s growth, even if you're not the “official owner”. This includes managers and team leaders who take ownership of their areas and are committed to making the business succeed.

Here’s the tip for today: If you’re in a leadership or stakeholder role…

Collaborate with your marketing team. Marketing isn’t a solo effort, and there’s no magic solution out there. It’s a team sport, and your involvement is key to making it work.

Now, here’s something to keep in mind: In many businesses, especially smaller ones, there might not be a full marketing team. Sometimes, it’s just one person handling marketing—or even someone doing marketing part-time while juggling other duties. This is where collaboration becomes even more crucial. If your marketing department is small or solo, your involvement is even more important. You need to work closely with them, help guide the direction, and ensure that marketing efforts align with your business’s goals.

A successful marketing strategy still needs input from all areas of the business. Without collaboration, you risk losing sight of your company’s identity, its character, and the essence of what makes your brand unique. Don’t leave it all to your marketer—work with them to craft ideas and strategies that reflect your business’s true vision.

And here’s something important—have fun with it! Crafting your business's character and defining your brand should be an enjoyable and creative process. The more you engage, the more you can shape a brand identity that truly resonates. Marketing doesn’t have to be all work and no play—embrace the process, and let your passion for the business shine through in your efforts.

Collaboration also sparks creativity. Not every idea will be a winner, but sometimes a bad idea can lead to a breakthrough. These kinds of discussions help generate fresh concepts and solutions that move the business forward. Whether your marketing department is a small team or just one person, your input is key to shaping the ideas that will drive success.

I know as business owners and stakeholders, your time is valuable. But making time to collaborate can pay off in big ways. It creates a stronger, more unified marketing effort, and when the team is aligned, the results are far greater than the sum of their parts.

To summarize: Owners and stakeholders—make sure to collaborate with your marketing team. There are no “magic beans” when it comes to marketing, but with the right collaboration and a little fun along the way, great things will happen.

We hope you all have a fantastic start to the year. And remember, if you want to discuss how to take your marketing to the next level, don’t hesitate to reach out to GoDak LLC. We’d love to collaborate with you!

Thanks for reading, and here’s to a successful 2025!
